Angkor Wat Half Marathon – Siem Reap, Cambodia
The Temple City of Angkor Wat was high on my bucket list. Running a half-marathon through the ruins was magical! My time – not so much…
London to Monte Carlo Cycling Challenge
A group of 15 – 13 Brits and 2 Canadians (my friend Ralph and I) cycled 1,400 km in 8.5 days from London – across the Alps – into Monaco. AMAZING TRIP.
Gran Paradiso, Italy
I joined a group to learn glacier climbing techniques and then applied it to climb to the summit of Gran Paradiso – the highest mountain in the Italian Alps. Pretty amazing adventure with beautiful scenery
Another bucket list item. I was selected in a lottery to run Boston 2013 (no, I wasn’t fast enough to qualify). But I wanted to run fast enough in Boston so that I could have qualified. As it was, I was a few minutes off. But the people and experience was phenomenal. And I finished about 30 minutes before all of the craziness with the bombing. Scary.
Bhutan is a magical place – the kingdom where happiness is measured not GDP. It was clean, beautiful and the people were amazing. Jhomolhari is a sacred mountain – the peak can’t be climbed by climbers. Our group climbed to the base camp (about 4,400 m above sea level). This is sunrise at base camp looking at Jhomolhari
Andes and Machu Picchu, Peru
Machu Picchu was another bucket list destination. I joined a group in Peru, trekked through the Andes and came into Machu Picchu to see the sun rise. Incredible experience.
For over 15 years, I have wanted to climb Kilimanjaro – the tallest free-standing mountain in the world. The neat thing about Kili is that it is not technical – just altitude and endurance. I finally had the opportunity to take some time off and chase this goal. It was tough but amazing – and left the climbing bug in me.
